Overview

Employees evaluate their yearly performance on an Oracle based framework. Their evaluation is sent to their manager and Feedback providers, for input and review. All this information is stored on the web application, year after year and available for the employee to access.

Challenges / Issues

While going through all 3 user journeys with the Business Analyst it was easy for me to assume the challenges encountered by employees.

• Unclear process of what employees are expected to do
• Lack of assistance along the user journey
• Insufficient feedback from the application, to confirm user decisions or outcomes of actions
• The look and feel was out-dated
• Confusing processes, duplicated buttons, vague button labels

The Business Analyst also provided telephonic support and employees had access to a how-to guidebook to use the application.

User Experience

After validating my assumptions above, I decided that there would be no guidebook. I aimed to create an intuitive user journey with helpful prompts along the way, making the journey less stressful for employees. I also aimed at minimising support calls altogether.

The employee should be able to give full attention to the evaluation process, without trying to learn how to use the application.

I created user journeys for all 3 user personas, updating the interactions and process.

User Interface

Initially I was tasked with only updating the UX - and using the existing UI elements. However, once complete, I was tasked with updating the UI with the latest MMI branding. This really gave me a chance to be able to guide the user clearly.

Because of the nature of the application, instructions had to be really obvious and clear. This is something that I found lacking most in the application- clear messages that confirm actions or results.

Lastly, I created an HTML template for developers to use.
