Overview

The client’s current mobile app has been built on the Oracle framework and enables employees to perform tasks such as:

  • Log their leave, overtime, queries
  • View payslips
  • Update personal information
  • Access learning centre
  • Search for jobs within the organisation
MMI

Problems

  • Out-dated interface
  • Employees were resistant to use the app
  • Information overload
  • Confusing or overly complicated copy
  • As a web application, it wasn’t designed or optimised to function as a mobile app.

What I did:

UX - Understand application

Using screenshots of the existing app as a reference point, I wireframed the new user journey.

I reviewed each element and page to ensure that everything served a purpose and wasn’t duplicated (as some elements were). I also simplified overly-wordy copy so that it is clear and concise.

I then reviewed the proposed new user journey with Business and developers, and updated it accordingly.

UI - Design mobile solution

Next step was to create mockups using the newly updated MMI Holdings branding. I provided several theme options as the brand has an extensive internal library.

I had to be mindful that the interface was going to be reskinned while the backend framework remained the same. That meant that I had to be conservative when making recommendations. More adventurous changes could be made in the next phase.
